In 1991 his brother, Pedro Collor, gave an interview where he confessed that Fernando Collor had a grand scheme of corruption in the presidency, which led the Congress to initiate investigations later. In September 1992 left the presidency due to the deepening of research, and a few months after finally resigned, leaving his vice president Itamar Franco as the new Head of State.
Collor was found guilty by Congress, which takes away the political rights for eight years. In 2002 the attempt to return to politics, aspiring to be Governor of Alagoas again but was unsuccessful. He said that he did not wish to return to candidates for public and therefore are committed to working in the private sector in 2006 until he accepted a nomination to Congress.
